mike duvallRemember those inappropriate comments we told you about earlier today that were made by Assemblyman Mike Duvall and caught on tape?  They have now cost him his job.

Duvall, 54, made the remarks to another lawmaker during a recess in a committee hearing over the summer, and they were caught by an open microphone that he had at his desk.

Los Angeles TV station KCAL reported that the two women mentioned by Mike Duvall were both married and that one of them represented an energy business with interests before a committee where he was serving as the vice chairman.

Mike Duvall, who himself is married and has two children, received a 100 percent rating from Capitol Resource Institute, a conservative advocacy group, for his votes on legislation considered pro-family during the 2007-8 legislative session.

“I am deeply saddened that my inappropriate comments have become a major distraction for my colleagues in the Assembly, who are working hard on the very serious problems facing our state,” Duvall said in a written statement. “I have come to the conclusion that it would not be fair to my family, my constituents or to my friends on both sides of the aisle to remain in office. Therefore, I have decided to resign my office, effective immediately, so that the Assembly can get back to work.”
