McRib

In 1981, McDonald’s introduced something that would change Alan Klein‘s life forever – the tasty McRib sandwich!  Since that time, the boneless pork sandwich has accumulated many McRib “groupies”.  More on Klein in a minute.

While not available all the time, it does return every once in a while to greet its fans and satisfy their ravenous fast food pork cravings.

On November, for the first time in 16 years, McDonald’s will offer the McRib sandwich at locations across the country, but only for about six weeks.

McDonald’s USA President Jan Fields says it doesn’t always sell well, but there are currently more than 300 Facebook groups devoted to the McRib, including “Bring back the McRib, Please” which has over 500 members.

Now, back to Alan Klein.  Klein is the creator of the McDonald’s McRib Locator. His obsession with the McRib began while he was just a young boy in South Dakota.

Klein, a 28-year-old meteorologist, now lives in Minnesota.  He once justified his yearning for tasty McRib sandwiches by saying they supported the family’s hog business. After moving to Minnesota for college, it became difficult to locate McRibs.

Five years ago, he traveled to South Dakota and saw the McRib at a local McDonald’s near his childhood home.

“It rekindled my love of McRibs and made me start thinking it would be nice to know where they were,” Klein says.

Three years ago, he launched the McRib Locator so he would never have to be without his favorite tasty treat again.
