A high school basketball coach is Mississippi has caused a media firestorm after cell phone footage of him whipping his players leaked online.
A six-second cellphone video shows one player being whipped at Murrah High School in Jackson. Coach Marlon Dorsey allegedly whipped players on the buttocks with a belt during practice for failing to execute plays properly.
Adding fuel to the fire, he also told them to accept the beatings or be dismissed from the team, allegedly calling them names such as “wimp” and “sissy”.
“I was in total shock and awe. I couldn’t believe it,” said Gary Love, a parent of a Murrah High Sophomore basketball player.
The coach reportedly whipped the boys with a weightlifting belt, which is at least three times thicker than an average belt.
Two families have now filed a lawsuit. More below.
