Is it just me, or is Mariah Carey suddenly in every news story on the web? Maybe her P.R. people are working overtime.
Regardless, the “Obsessed” singer has now tried to explain her somewhat wacky acceptance speech at Tuesday’s Palm Springs International Film Festival awards bash.
During her “speech”, Carey seemed to be a bit loopy and lost her train of thought several times (view the speech here), prompting many to speculate that Mariah may have been a bit tipsy.
Turns out, they were pretty much right.
Mariah Carey has this to say about the matter:
“The thing is me and Lee hadn’t see each other in a long time, and then he was presenting my award, so he starts off immediately with inside jokes. We had splashes of champagne, and I love Lee but he’s a bad influence. If people don’t understand me and think I’m just like this girl that stands by a microphone and sings ‘Hero,’ then they’re definitely not going to get me. But if people knew me better, they would understand I have a sense of humor, and basically that’s what gets me through life.”
So…he got her drunk. Great.
Whew. For a minute there, I was worried she had totally lost her mind.
