Needing therapy isn't an "insult" unless you are dense, or extremely narrow minded. As well - why is it that YOU can insult others here - but it's not okay when you think someone else is doing so. Yikes.

PS - I'm not a "modern day parent" - thanks. But I do know many of them who are extremely good ones. Bottom line as it's apparent you've lost track of that... The guy in Wal-Mart needs to be severely punished for what he did... and it has NOTHING to do with parenting, the woman's child, or anything of the sort. Stick to the issue.

Michelleegg? Get a life. Needing therapy isn't an “insult” unless you are dense, or extremely narrow minded. Why would you insult her and say she needs therapy? And why does "petewally" think "you all" should be locked up? Funny how those who react less when they should (the moms who let their kids scream wildly in stores) go ballistic when someone calmly states facts. It's precisely THAT that bugs me about many modern-day parents -- they will never admit that they are careless parents, but are so quick on the draw to attack others with different viewpoints, in the most vitriolic way. The "terrible 2s" are exactly when to parent the strongest. Those kids are smart, and that is exactly the time to train them. There is no way that letting a child squall in a store, is "training". It's neglectful, lazy parenting. Even more, it's a sad indication of a parent with emotional problems, because what that parent is actually doing is saying, "Oh, lookee, everyone, see, *I* have a kid, and he/she is soooooo cute, and I have you all looking at us... and, sigh... it's so hard to raise a kid nowadays..... oh, I *so* enjoy you all looking at us....." For crying out loud.

Sorry, you missed the boat, “brianstrong”. No WAY did kids scream in grocery aisles back then. Kids were given a stern warning in the car before going into the store, and IN the store, if they tried anything funny, they would get THE LOOK. That look meant absolutely: "You try that again, and we're going straight home where you're getting a whupping". It worked pretty much every time. You see, a "whupping" was a wicked, oh, 6, 7 paddles on the behind, that hurt like the dickens, but even worse, were humbling. It only had to happen once, maybe twice, per child, and store behaviour was cured.
I really do think parents with screaming children should be shown the door at shopping centres. However, intelligent parents would never wait that long -- they would have that child back in the car lickety-split. Don't fool yourself, all you parents whose bristles go up when I say this. Your child is smart; you do this once, twice, and it's cured. (Trouble is, I think parents are more selfish, dumber too, and this carries down to the children.)

Exactly! Well said, Bill. isPermaLink="false">http://www.blippitt.com/?p=11416#comment-3382

5tendiva, you and some other people make good points, I also thought the same thing about you from the blogs you made. I admit that im taking this very personal. Before I go on I want to commend you as a teacher, I know how tough it may be to teach other people's children and I am fully aware of the problems we have with our children in society. So hats off to you. Some of the blogs really bother me, especially those who want to judge other peoples parenting abilities as being poor, but then in the same paragraph say things like "the mother should be slapped". This could be a single mother, because I havent heard anything about a father or male, claiming and speaking up for this child. I see blogs that say "I have the right to go out in public and not have to deal with brats and disruptive behavior" which is true, meanwhile not that serious. There are men and women overseas fighting and dying for your rights to walk around and be safe and not have to worry about terriorist attacks in our homeland and enjoy these priviledges. But at the same time dont want to acknowledge other peoples rights to feel safe in public shopping areas, just because someone gets irritated over a small child crying in public. Public Safety, clearly out weights individuals who complain about toddlers getting on their nerves because they are too noisey. People can forget about that quicker than acts of violence. This mother will be forever scarred, the child may forget this incident in a few years. Since people want to make examples, try this "As a Minority male in America, i have had racial slurs directed towards me,and if I retaliate with violence, i wouldnt get a pass, no matter how degrating the statement may be. It seems like some people want to give this guy a pass and a pat on the back for doing something they wish they coulld have done. As an adult, you just have to let some things go, especially if you can just walk away from the situation. Whatever doesnt kill you just makes you stronger. As bad as I might have wanted to beat somebody down to a bloody corpse it wouldnt make it right for calling me a derogiatory name. My 11 yr old son has a Barrack Obama shirt that his mother told him he cant wear anymore in fear that somebody may harm him. This really hurts, to know that just because someone or certain groups of people who hate kids, other races, other religious groups, and cant accept differences they come across in public places may act out in violent manners. Lastly I want to address an early blog that I wrote, it was a threat that I should not have made, I contradicted myself feeding into some of these blogs out of anger and fustration and want to apologize for that, also to 5tendiva for misunderstanding her views I have the up most respect for you. Thank you for devoting time to teenage prisioners and troubled youth and wish the best to you and your child.

5tendiva, you and some other people make good points, I also thought the same thing about you from the blogs you made. Since people want to make examples, try this “As a Minority male in America, i have had racial slurs directed towards me,and if I retaliate with violence, i wouldnt get a pass, no matter how degrating the statement may be.

By: brianstrong

<guid
