A Massachusetts man has been fined $500 after assaulting a Chuck E. Cheese mascot.

Police say the 34-year-old man, Trahan Pires, was having a birthday party for his 11-year-old son at Chuck E. Cheese when things went awry.

Pires noticed some commotion near the mascot and assumed the man in the costume had injured his son by pinning him against a video game.  Pires proceeded to grab the mascot, rip off his head-piece off, and shout obscenities at him.

Jessie Carvalho, the man in the mouse suit, said that the crowd of children that surrounded him nearly knocked him over so he put his arms out in front of him and pushed through the crowd.  He claims that at no time did he try to push or grab anyone.

Witness testimony seemed to verify the Chuck E. Cheese version of the occurrence and the judge fined Pires $500 after rejecting the prosecution’s demands for a 6 month jail sentence.
