OK, so Lorne Michaels is taking another SNL bit and turning it into a 90-minute movie. My first reaction? Yawn. This should rank right up there with such cinematic masterpieces as “The Ladies Man” or “A Night at the Roxbury”.
But wait – what’s this?
Val Kilmer has signed on (playing a villain named “Deiter von Cunth” – win!), along with Ryan Phillipe and Powers Boothe?
OK, it’s getting better.
In the sketches on Saturday Night Live, MacGruber is a bumbling counter-spy agent (who looks a lot like MacGuyver) who is usually too sorting through his own issues to actually finish the job. He almost always ends up getting blown up at the end of each sketch.
From the website:
“Only one American hero has earned the rank of Green Beret, Navy Seal and Army Ranger. Just one operative has been awarded 16 purple hearts, 3 Congressional Medals of Honor, and 7 Presidential Medals of Bravery. And only one guy is man enough to still sport a mullet.“
OK, sp maybe we’ll have to give this one a shot. Take a look at the restricted trailer below and see what you think:
