Lucy Vodden, the woman who served as the inspiration for the classic Beatles song “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”, has died after a prolonged battle with lupus. She was 46 years of age.
Lucy Vodden first caught the public’s eye when she was just a toddler. John Lennon’s son, Julian, drew a picture of her while he was attending nursery school back in 1966. Julian showed the picture to his father and said, “That’s Lucy in the sky with diamonds,” and the rest is history.
Here is that famous drawing:
“Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” was included in the Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” album.
Lucy Vodden officially confessed to the Lucy mentioned in the two years ago:
“I remember Julian and I both doing pictures on a double-sided easel, throwing paint at each other, much to the horror of the classroom attendant… Julian had painted a picture and on that particular day his father turned up with the chauffeur to pick him up from school.”
