Right around 10am yesterday morning, many New York residents got a good scare when low-flying aircraft buzzed some local high-rises for what officials are calling a “photo-opportunity.”
As has been the case several times over the past few months, the news broke via Twitter.

Soon, reporters were getting on board and people were calling the FAA looking for answers. You see, these weren’t just any aircraft flying over New York, these were F-16 fighter jets escorting a 747 jumbo jet from the Air Force One fleet away from the Statue of Liberty.
The tweets kept on coming…
Before long, full-blown panic filled the air.
Even the stock market (which is, of course, headquartered in New York) took a dive shortly after 10am…

From Twitter, to news outlets, to the New York Stock Exchange – all within about 4 minutes. Fascinating.

Was there really cause for alarm? Officials say that this was a “photo opp”, but as Duncan points out over at The Inquisitr, these look a lot like emergency preparedness maneuvers to me. Take a look and decide for yourself…
