There was a relatively minor Los Angeles earthquake that struck in the Santa Monica Mountains on Friday. Thus far, there have been no reports of any injuries or property damage.
An early report indicated that magnitude-4.4 earthquake hit at 6:11pm local time (9:11pm EDT). The U.S. Geological Survey says that it was centered about seven miles to the northwest of Malibu.
The Los Angeles earthquake jostled the area in the middle of afternoon rush-hour and could be felt as far north as Lancaster in the Mojave Desert to southern Orange County.
Kerstin Edwards, who resides a couple of miles from the earthquake’s epicenter, was quoted as saying she felt the tremor while she was in her home. She didn’t notice any damage.
“It started off as a strong jolt,” Edwards told the AP. “It’s definitely one of the bigger ones I’ve felt.”
