This past Tuesday, Judge Marsha Revel sentenced Lindsay Lohan and her F-Bomb fingernail to 90 days in jail. The ratings are in and TMZ’s live feed of the sentencing drew 2.3 million viewers! Furthermore, those viewers hung around for about 16 minutes.
These figures are staggering for a web broadcast.
Mashable points out that the Ustream broadcast of the Tiger Woods press conference attracted a mere 683,000 viewers in comparison.
For further comparison, consider that a repeat of America’s Next Top Model drew about 1.424 million viewers on Wednesday according to Nielsen.
TMZ’s live feed came from the in-court pool, which was the one feed allowed by Judge Revel. The site also served up a series of online polls, one of which got over 800,000 votes.
Just goes to show, America still loves a good train wreck.
