Lightning Strikes PlaneThere are all kinds of strange weather phenomena unfolding today.  First, there were mysterious transformer explosions in Fort Worth, now a jet plane gets struck by lightning in mid-flight.

Actually, this isn’t all that unusual, but it IS unusual for it to be caught on film.

A photographer in London caught the strike, which hit an Emirates Airlines airplane as it was preparing to land.

According to ABC News, “the flash struck the roof, right above the pilots’ heads but thankfully, planes can handle this and no one was hurt. There wasn’t even a scratch on the plane. The lightning bolt lit up the sky and spidered out around the craft in a spectacular light show.”

According to Scientific American, the last time a commercial plane crashed after being struck by lightning was in 1967 when a thunderbolt caused the plane’s fuel tank to explode.
