A 4.7 earthquake rattled the L.A. area on Sunday, May 17, 2009 with an epicenter that was near the neighborhoods of Inglewood and Lennox, CA. The earthquake struck at about 8:39pm local time.
there were no immediate reports of any serious injuries or damage.
The quake lasted 10 to 15 seconds and could be felt throughout the Greater Los Angeles area and as far south as San Diego.
The U.S. Geological Survey has described the earthquake as “moderate” and said the event began 8.4 miles below the surface.
The quake, felt across the entire Los Angeles area, is one of the larger quakes to hit the area in recent times and was the closest quake to the center of Los Angeles itself.
