LeAnne Novacek, wife of former Dallas Cowboys player Jay Novacek, was found dead at her mother’s home on Monday after apparently committing suicide, according to police.

The cause was noted as a “self-inflicted gunshot wound.” The police investigation is ongoing, with an autopsy scheduled for Tuesday.

The Medical Examiner’s office stated that Novacek’s body was discovered in the bedroom of the home shortly after 9 a.m. local time.  At 8:37 a.m., Burleson police and fire departments responded to “a report of a medical emergency, possible suicide” at a residence in Burleson, Texas.

The frantic 911 call came from Novacek’s mother. LeAnne, 45, lived nearby.  Police say that they are waiting for the medical examiner’s ruling on an official cause of death.

“It appeared no foul play, so we’re waiting for the medical examiner’s findings,” said Burleson police Commander Doug Sandifer.

Jay Novacek was elected to the Pro Bowl five times.  He played for the Dallas Cowboys from 1990 to 1995. From 1985 to 1989, he played for the St. Louis Cardinals.

In 2008, Novacek was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
