A freak LAX baggage accident slowed down passengers bound for Narita, Japan via Flight 61 on Monday.
Authorities say that a metal baggage container was sucked into the engine of a Boeing 747 at Los Angeles International Airport. No one was injured in the accident, but jet is now out of commission.
The 245 passengers were asked to exit the plane and were taken back to the terminal.
Marshall Lowe, an spokesperson for the airport, says the incident occurred as Flight 61 was pushing back from a terminal around 1:30pm, local time (4:30pm EDT).
FAA spokesman Ian Gregor says a baggage cart was being towed nearby at the same time and the plane's engine ingested one of its containers.
The metal container became lodged in the engine of the four-engine jet.
