Lady Gaga Meat Dress 164x300Will it come with dressing?  Lady Gaga has been asked to replace her infamous “Meat Dress” with a lettuce frock during her visit to India as a way to honor the country’s vegetarian majority.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) in India sent a letter to the “Poker Face” singer asking that she don the leafy creation during her stay in the predominantly Hindu country.

“Considering meat’s monstrous impact on our health and the environment … PETA India asked Mother Monster to show her fans that even just reducing the amount of meat they eat (or wear) can help,” the group said in a recent blog post.

The lettuce dress would be held together by pins and threads. A wardrobe assistant would also follow the pop icon to continuously spray the dress with water to keep it from wilting.

“If she agrees, we’ll make her a dress entirely of lettuce and held together by pins and threads. It will be a full length gown, and we’ll make sure it looks sexy,” Sachin Bangera of PETA India said in a statement.

The lettuce dress would be assembled leaf by leaf, PETA said, and take up to six hours to complete.

“Someone will be on hand to spray the lettuce with water so that it doesn’t wilt,” Bangera said.

Lady Gaga is in the South Asian nation this weekend.  She’ll be performing at a celebration for India’s first Formula One race.

The 25-year-old Grammy winner has yet to answer the challenge.

The Fame Monster shocked fans with her hand-sewn “Meat Dress” at last year’s MTV Video Music Awards, wearing the carnivorous creation while she accepted the Best Video of the Year award for “Bad Romance”.

The garment was designed by Franc Fernandez and stylist Nicola Formichetti.

The popular dress went on display this summer at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio.
