Lady Gaga has done it again. This time, Mother Monster is in hot water with many of her fans after posting a tweet that would seem to encourage anorexia.
On Tuesday, Gaga tweeted:
“Just killed back to back spin classes. Eating a salad dreaming of a cheeseburger #PopSingersDontEat #IWasBornThisWay”
The Twitterverse just about exploded with rage directed at the pop mega-star, with users taking particular issue with the “don’t eat” hashtag. Many tweeted that they were “disgusted” and had “lost respect” for the singer.
One fan tweeted:
“You just blatantly endorsed anorexia to over 22 million followers.”
Even the National Eating Disorders Association chimed it, tweeting:
“Huh? This is the same person who recently implored girls to stop dieting?”
Lady Gaga, 26, admitted to Vanity Fair not long ago that she had previously battled bulimia, citing an incident in which she forced herself to throw up before a meeting with a record-label executive.
Since then, she’s been an advocate of healthy eating habits, encouraging young girls to cultivate a positive body image.
In February, she spoke at a young women’s conference in L.A., saying, “The dieting wars have got to stop. Everyone just knock it off.”
