Amazon's Kindle iPhone app Kindle for iPhone, or more specifically the Kindle iPhone website, was tweaked a bit today to improve functionality. Could it also be an indication that soon, you won't even NEED the Kindle to browse e-books in the Kindle store?

It used to be that, when you went to the Kindle iPhone app Kindle for iPhone to browse for books, you had to pretty much put your iPhone down and browse books on either your Kindle or the Amazon website itself.

Now, though, when you click on “Get Books” within in the iPhone app, you can go right to a site that features an iPhone-formatted Kindle book browser.

While this is a huge improvement, you are still booted out of the iPhone app and forced to launch Safari from that point on.

Still, this seems to be a step in the right direction. It should be even better when the iPhone 3.0 software launches this summer. By that time, the app should then give you the ability to purchase Kindle books from right within the app itself.

Amazon won't be too happy about this, however, as Apple will get a 30 percent cut whenever that happens.
