Amazon unveiled its new Kindle DX at a press conference today in New York. The Kindle DX will become available this summer but you can pre-order it here now.
The Kindle DX, which we reported on earlier this year, has a larger screen, suitable for reading newspapers and magazines.
Kindle sales are huge for Amazon. Did you know that, where available, Kindle e-book title sales now represent 35 percent of the titles sold on Amazon? That number seems staggering considering how new this technology is.
So far, three newspapers have agreed to pilot Kindle DX for a reduced price in return for longer-term subscriptions: The New York Times, The Washington Post, and the Boston Globe.
Here are some of the key features of the Kindle DX:
- A 9.7 inch display with auto-rotation functionality
- 3G wireless access to 275,000 titles books
- Built-in .PDF support
- 3.3GB of memory
- $9.99 or less for New York Times
- $489 price tag for Kindle DX vs $359 for 6-inch Kindle 2
