He just turned 8 years old earlier this month, but little Kieron Williamson has already been deemed a painting prodigy, producing watercolors that could easily be found hanging on art gallery walls.
Because of his Impressionist style, he’s even been given the nickname “Mini Monet”. He’s also been given large sums of money.
In just thirty minutes, 33 of his paintings were sold in a gallery in his hometown of Holt in England for about $236,000.
Williamson was just like other boys. He enjoyed fishing, swimming, and playing computer games. Then he turned 5.
It seems he was moved to paint on a family vacation in 2008. He asked his parents for a piece of paper so he could draw the beauty that surrounded him.
“The first pictures that he did were what any 5-year-old would do,” says Michelle Williamson, 37. “It was the time, and level of concentration that he put into doing it; that was the turning point. It was like a switch. We never thought he would continue drawing after the holiday. He just improved.”
Once he started taking art classes, his instructors said his technique displayed perspective and reflections of a master, they even compared him to Picasso.
“I believe the last child artist in this bracket was Picasso,” said the gallery’s owner, Adrian Hill. “And Kieron is getting better and better and better. He has a very mature hand and has mastered certain techniques at an early stage which some artists would take years to perfect.”
His first exhibition of 19 of his works earned him over $22,000. His second exhibition, which was held last December, was supposed to last for a month, but every single painting had been sold within 15 minutes, netting him another $27,000.
Orders for his most recent exhibition in July came in via the web from places like New York and South Africa.
Luckily, Kieron loves his work. He often will paint up to six works per week. Still, his waiting list stands at 2,000 names…impressive by any standards.
