“Hi ho! Kermit the Frog here with a Muppet news flash!”
Peak to Peak Charter School in Colorado was shut down on Wednesday morning after a duffel bag containing a Kermit the Frog doll (which looked like it had blood stains on it) was discovered on the school’s campus.
A school employee called local police at around 7:15 a.m. local time after finding the suspicious package in the school’s empty parking lot.
Police immediately surrounded Peak to Peak while students and staff members who had already arrived were locked down in another part of the school’s campus.
Boulder County’s bomb squad then used a robot to examine the contents of the duffel bag, where the Kermit the Frog doll was found, at a safe distance.
The school was finally cleared around 10 a.m., but officials decided to keep the school closed for the rest of the day as many students didn’t manage to get to campus before it was locked down.
One local mom says her daughter thinks the Kermit doll might have been a senior prank. Still, she’s grateful for the careful approach.
“I’d much rather be cautious and miss a day of school than have someone (at Peak to Peak) trying to decide if it’s a prank or not,” she said. “I think that if we don’t have people taking those steps, stuff will happen.”
