A woman in Ross Township, PA was killed by her pet black bear while she cleaned its cage, according to authorities. Police report that the 350-pound-bear mauled Kelly Ann Walz to death on Sunday evening.
A Pennsylvania state Game Commission spokesperson says that Walz kept the bear locked up in a steel & concrete cage near her home approximately 20 miles northeast of Allentown, PA.
Walz, 37, apparently tossed a shovelful of dog food into the cage to distract the bear while she attempted to clean the other side. The bear, however, turned on her and attacked.
The bear has been shot and killed. Kelly Ann Walz also owned a Bengal tiger and an African lion. She had licenses to own the animals.
