The MSNBC network has suspended Keith Olbermann upon learning that the popular news anchor had donated to three Democratic candidates during the election.
“I became aware of Keith’s political contributions late last night. Mindful of NBC News policy and standards, I have suspended him indefinitely without pay,” said MSNBC president Phil Griffin in a statement.
UPDATE: Olbermann has been fired from MSNBC, his last broadcast was on Friday, January 21, 2011
It seems Olbermann donated $2,400 each to Reps. Raul Grijalva and Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona and also to Kentucky Senate candidate Jack Conway.
The police of NBC News does allow employees to donate to political candidates, but they must first get approval from NBC News execs before doing so.
Olbermann defended his donation in a statement, saying, “I did not privately or publicly encourage anyone else to donate to these campaigns nor to any others in this election or any previous ones, nor have I previously donated to any political campaign at any level.”
