After 14 months of marriage, Russell Brand is divorcing Katy Perry.
“Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage,” Brand said in a statement released to the Associated Press this afternoon. “I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.”
Brand, 36, offered no other details on the reason for the divorce filing. In paperwork filed today in Los Angeles, however, Brand listed “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split.
He and Perry, 27, were married in October of last year in a Hindu ceremony in India.
The couple announced their engagement in January 2010 after meeting at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, where Russell Brand hosted and Katy Perry performed.
As recently as yesterday, rumors had been swirling that the two were in dire straits, as they were each seen over the Christmas holiday without their respective wedding rings. Neither had commented on the matter until today.
Perry hosted Saturday Night Live earlier this month and gave no indication that there was trouble in paradise. Neither of them has been on Twitter today to address the matter further.
