Kate Gosselin People CoverIt’s all over now, Kate.  Kate Plus 8 has been cancelled by TLC, putting a reality show that was once one of the most popular on cable TV out of its misery.

TLC execs issued the following statement regarding the cancellation today:

TLC has decided not to renew another season of “Kate Plus 8.” By the end of this season, “Kate Plus 8″ will have hit the 150 episode mark (including “Jon & Kate Plus 8″); an exceptional milestone. TLC hopes to check in with Kate and the family periodically with specials in the future.

The network launched the show’s latest season, which follows Kate Gosselin and her posse of children, just last week. The series finale will air on September 12, 2011.

The show initially made its debut back in 2007 under the name Jon & Kate Plus 8 on TLC sister network Discovery Health and moved to TLC in 2008. At its peak, Jon & Kate Plus 8 attracted an astounding 10 million viewers each week.

After Jon Gosselin and Kate’s much-publicized divorce in 2009, the title was changed to Kate Plus 8 and the ratings plummeted.

Without Jon, I guess there was no longer a train wreck for America to tune in and enjoy watching.
