kandi burress aj jewellKandi Burruss, a cast member on the popular reality show The Real Housewives of Atlanta, has learned that her ex-fiance, A.J. Jewell, was killed during an altercation at the Atlanta strip club Body Tap on Friday.

Jewell, who was the father of six children, was immediately whisked to Piedmont Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  He suffered massive head injuries.

Kandi Burress’ publicist, Lisa Nelson, says her client is “stunned and speechless.”  She says that the family is requesting privacy during this most difficult time.

Burruss, a former member of the R&B group Xscape, posted about the incident on Twitter early this morning. She wrote, “I could never in a million years imagine this happening.”

“im just in one of those moods where i dont wanna talk,” she posted.

“i dont wanna b held & told its gonna b ok. i just wanna cry myself 2 sleep, alone,” she tweeted.

Burress, 33, started dating Ashley A.J. Jewell earlier this year and the pair became engaged to be married. Back in August, the songwriter and Jewell broke off the engagement and subsequently ended their relationship entirely, though Jewell said at the time that they were still “good friends.” He moved out of Kandi’s home, but she’s still the legal guardian for his 12-year-old twin daughters.

Atlanta Police Lt. Keith Meadows had this to say about the incident:

“It appears he was involved in an altercation in the parking lot and he received a severe blow to the head. We have developed a person of interest and we’ve made contact with him to question him about the incident.”

No arrests have yet been made in the case.
