Seau was 43-years-old and leaves behind 3 children and his ex-wife.
Police are now at Seau’s home in San Diego County and seem to be treating the case as a possible suicide. Authorities have been seen talking with a man who was inside the home and seemed to be distraught.
According to TMZ, Seau sent text messages to his ex-wife and 3 children yesterday saying, “Love you.”
Seau last saw his children three weeks ago.
Family members say they hadn’t noticed any signs of depression lately.
“My prayers and condolences to the family of one of the NFL’s greatest linebackers to ever play the game.. Junior Seau.. R.I.P”
Seau was a standout player in the NFL, playing for the San Diego Chargers, Miami Dolphins, and New England Patriots. The USC alum was chosen in the first round of the NFL draft in 1990 and played in the league for two decades.
You may recall that Seau was involved in a car crash back in 2010 when he drove his SUV off a cliff in California. Seau later stated that he was not trying to kill himself, claiming to have fallen asleep at the wheel.
R.I.P. Junior Seau.
UPDATE: Suicide confirmed…Seau was found with a gunshot wound to the chest.
