You know, whenever I stumble across a child pornography case, my first thought is, “Where are the parents?” In this case, I shouldn’t have asked.
Julie Carr, a 33-year-old mother from Maine, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexually abusing her 2-year-old little girl and streaming the whole thing live over the internet to a teenager in the U.K.
Carr had also been previously sentenced to 20 years last week once she was convicted on child pornography charges, so the two sentenced will run concurrently. Too bad they won’t be added together.
The mom-of-the year candidate was convicted of producing child pornography and gross sexual assault and exploitation of a minor.
This all took place in June of 2009 and the details just might turn your stomach so just stop reading now if you have a sensitive stomach. Apparently, Carr streamed live video of herself giving oral sex to her 2-year-old daughter. Yes, you read that correctly.
The videos were sent to one Nicholas Wilde, who was 19 years old at the time, in West Midlands, England. Carr evidently met him via an online dating site.
The heinous videos were found by British authorities after they searched Wilde’s home in relation to a different kiddie porn case.
Wilde was caught when he sent images of sexual abuse to a 16-year-old girl with whom he was chatting n the internet.
The girl alerted her mom who then called the police.
A memory stick found at Wilde’s home contained video of Carr abusing her young daughter at Wilde’s direction.
It also contained child pornography photos involving children as young as 18 months old.
British police then worked together with American authorities to find Julie Carr.
Wilde, who says he has Asperger’s syndrome, got five years in prison and had to register as a sexual offender. Fortunately, he now has a life-long ban on working with kids.
Carr has now lost custody of her kids, three daughters and a son.
“I want to say that I am sorry,” she told the court. “I never meant to hurt anyone in my family, and I have regretted it ever since.”
Once she is released from prison, Carr will be monitored for drug and alcohol abuse and all of her internet activity will be monitored. She will also have to register as a sex offender.
The judge berated Carr at her sentencing.
“What you have done, Ms. Carr, is violate the most basic bond of society — the bond between a mother and her child, the bond between a mother and her daughter,” said U.S. District Judge John Woodcock.
“I have always thought that possession is bad enough, but production is another level of true evil,” Woodcock said.
“Unequivocally, yours is the worst case I’ve ever seen.”
What do YOU think? Was Julie Carr’s sentence strong enough?
