It should probably not be surprising to anyone that Josh Powell killed his two young sons and himself in that horrific weekend explosion, given all the warning signs that were present along the way.
This is the guy who said he took his sons on a midnight camping trip in the middle of winter on the night his wife Susan disappeared.
Now, a final voicemail has surfaced, which reveals a disturbed man at the end of his rope.
Family members say that before the tragic murder-suicide, which took place during a supervised visit with social services, Powell had started giving his sons’ belonging to Goodwill, and just 20 minutes prior to the explosion, Powell left one final voicemail on a family member’s phone, saying:
“I am not able to live without my sons, and I’m not able to go on anymore. I’m sorry to everyone I’ve hurt. Goodbye.”
Even though the mountain of evidence seems to condemn Powell in his sons’ deaths, his family blames others.
Alina Powell, Josh’s sister, released a statement following the deaths on Sunday, saying:
“Josh and his boys spent more than two years being crushed alive by hate, harassment, and abuse. None of us could have anticipated the devastating tragedy that took place Sunday, but what this unimaginable loss shows is that hate will never end well. Hate kills.”
Interestingly enough, Powell’s father, Steven Powell, has now been named a “person of interest” in the disappearance of Susan Powell.
Steven Powell is also now on suicide watch.
