Former Texas Rangers pitcher and current Seattle Mariners bullpen coach John Wetteland was taken to a Denton County hospital on Thursday after authorities  were called to his home.

Police report that Wetteland was admitted for for a mental health issue.

The Denton County Sheriff's department reportedly took a 911 call from the Bartonville area around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon relating to a person who was possibly suicidal.

When help arrived, a man, who later identified himself as Wetteland, emerged from the home with his hands in the air, saying "I need help."

John Wetteland spent 12 years in Major League Baseball, coming to the Rangers after winning the 1996 World Series MVP honors while playing for the New York Yankees.

Wetteland retired from playing in 2000 while with the Rangers.
