Renowned Houston attorney John O’Quinn, who gained notoriety by pioneering guilty verdicts against the makers of breast implants and tobacco products, has died in a car accident. He was 68 years of age.
Houston police say two people were killed on Thursday morning, one of whom was John O’Quinn, when an SUV skidded over the median strip on Allen Parkway and collided with a tree near downtown Houston.
O’Quinn was took the lead on such national affairs as the breast implant cases and was one of the key attorneys in Texas’ landslide settlement from big tobacco.
He had also been prosecuted by the State Bar of Texas for the manner in which he got his cases and was found in contempt of court in the middle of a trial for falling asleep in a jury room.
