Peyton Manning Jim Irsay Bill PolianJim Irsay is clearly auditioning for the role of dumbest owner in the NFL, recently vacated by the late Al Davis.

So far, he’s handled the ongoing Peyton Manning saga with all the subtlety of a dump truck slamming into a nitroglycerin factory.

A few weeks ago, he called the Colts QB a “politician” after Manning expressed some concern with all the changes going on on in Indy, then Irsay flip-flopped on that quote after it came back to bite him in the ass.

More recently, when asked about Manning’s future by Mike Chappell of the Indianapolis Star, Irsay offered this golden nugget:

“We can make it work if he wants to be here,” Irsay said. “We’d be excited to have him back and finish his career with us.

“I want him to be able to make the choice. We would love to have him back here if he can get healthy and we can look at doing a contract that reflects the uncertainty of the…healing process with the regeneration of the nerve.”

Gosh, Jim, it sure would be kindly of you to “make it work” if the second-greatest quarterback in franchise history (besides Johnny Unitas right here in Baltimore, of course) wants to come back. Not only, that but you’re publicly stating that you’ll slash his salary too! #WINNING!

That’s not unexpected, of course, but way to air out your dirty laundry. Have the stitches even healed yet?

Of course, the this is the same family that whisked the Colts out of Baltimore in the middle of the night, so one would certainly expect nothing but class from them going forward. You know what they say about the apple.

Irsay and Manning are scheduled to meet next week to discuss Peyton’s future with the team, and Irsay’s latest show of ineptitude is clearly a message indicating that the ball is now in Manning’s court.

Indianapolis is expected to select Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck with the first overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft.

I’m sure Jim Irsay will keep us updated every step of the way.
