Last night on American Idol, contestant Jessica Furney returned again one year later to give it another go and try to make it through to Hollywood.
Jessica hoped to stand out by singing the song “Footprints In The Sand”, which was co-written by none other than Simon Cowell.
Cowell mentioned, “It’s a beautiful song, good luck.”
The song was originally done by Leona Lewis on her CD “Spirit” which came out back in March of 2008.
“Footprints In The Sand” is based on the Christian poem “Footprints”. Simon had asked producers to write a song based on the popular poem. It is the official song for the charity Sport Relief.
Jessica did a much better job this year. If you recall, last year she took a more “bluesy” turn in her audition.
All four American Idol judges liked the performance and sent her to Hollywood. You can check out the video and lyrics to the song below:
“Footprints In The Sand” (lyrics)
You walked with me
Footprints in the sand
And helped me understand
Where I’m going
You walked with me
When I was all alone
With so much unknown
Along the way
That’s when I heard you say
I promise you
I’m always there
When your heart is filled with sorrow
And despair
And I’ll carry you
When you need a friend
You’ll find my footprints in the sand
When I’m weary
Well I know you’ll be there
Cause I can feel you
When you say
I promise you
I’m always there
When your heart is filled with sadness and despair
Oh, I’ll carry you
When you need a friend
You’ll find my footprints in the sand
When your heart is full of sadness and despair
I’ll carry you
When you need a friend
I promise you
I’m always there
When you need a friend
You’ll find my footprints
In the sand
