A jury has just found former Penn State Nittany Lions assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky guilty on 45 of 48 counts in his child sex abuse case.
The verdict came after about 21 hours of deliberations over the course of two days.
The charges had shaken Pennsylvania State University to its core and brought national attention on the issue of child sexual abuse.
A large crowd gathered tonight outside the Centre County Courthouse in Pennsylvania to hear about the verdict.
A chorus of cheers went up outside as the news was released.
Sandusky, a 68-year-old retired defensive coach who was once Joe Paterno’s heir apparent, now faces life in prison at his sentencing, which is still weeks away.
He faces a maximum possible sentence of 442 years.
Sandusky did not take the stand in his own defense during the trial.
