J-Lo = Win!
Jennifer Lopez has emerged victorious in a cybersquatting case and has been awarded the rights to jenniferlopez.net and jenniferlopez.org. Both domain names were bought by a domain investor and used for commercial gain.
Lopez filed a domain dispute against the owner via the World Intellectual Property Organization, which ruled in favor of J-Lo.
Jeremiah Tieman must now transfer the domain names to Jennifer Lopez’s properties within 10 days. Tieman said he had merely created fan sites about Lopez on the two domain names. WIPO saw it differently and ruled that Tieman was using the domains “in bad faith.”
What helped matters was the fact that J-Lo had previously registered her name as a trademark, as this was a key point in the case. The ruling states that the domains were “identical to the complainant’s mark.”
