Jeff Fisher, coach of the Tennessee Titans, has irked some fans of the team by wearing a Peyton Manning jersey to a local fund raiser.
Fisher, who received a standing ovation when he took the stage, introduced Tony Dungy at the Rally for Rocketown at Lipscomb University. The Peyton Manning jersey was concealed under his shirt and jacket. After he revealed the jersey, he joked: “I just wanted to feel like a winner.”
The hapless Titans are having a terrible year. Their latest defeat was a 59-0 drubbing at the hands of the New England Patriots.
During his weekly radio show in Nashville, Fisher apologized, but also indicated that he doesn’t feel that he did anything wrong.
“It was for a very, very worthwhile cause, charity,” Fisher said. “I was introducing Tony, just having fun with it and I really apologize if I offended anybody, but if you’re offended over the nature of that type of thing, then I think you need to rethink things.
“This is a very worthwhile and needy benefit and I was honored to be there. & I’m sorry if I offended anybody but if I had to do it again, I would do it again.”
