Jay Bennett, instrumentalist and former member of the band Wilco, died in his sleep this weekend, according to a post on the website for Undertow Music Collective.
Bennett was 45. At this time, the exact cause if death has not been determined.
“We are profoundly saddened to report that our friend died in his sleep last night. Jay was a beautiful human being who will be missed,” read the update on Undertow.
Late last month, Bennett posted on his MySpace page that he was going to have a hip replacement, as he had been living with a torn ACL since his time in Titanic Love Affair, and didn’t have any health insurance.
The Chicago Sun-Times was able to reach Bennett’s friend, Edward Burch who had this to say:
“Early this morning, Jay died in his sleep and an autopsy is being performed.”
