jasper schuringa Jasper Schuringa Is Flight 253 Hero for Subduing Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab

The hero of the Northwest Airlines flight 253 terrorist attack on Christmas Day has been identified.  He is Jasper Schuringa, a director from Amsterdam.

He jumped on top of suspected terrorist Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab when he set off a small explosive on the plane. Schuringa not only swiped the burning device from Mutallab, but then also helped the plane's crew subdue him.

Schuringa met with reporters, saying he heard what sounded like fireworks and then saw smoke and fire on the suspect's lap.

He immediately grabbed hold of the flaming object with both hands, put out the fire, and then stripped Mutallab and checked him for other explosives, holding him down while the crew cuffed him.

“I pulled the object from him and tried to extinguish the fire with my hands and threw it away,” Schuringa said.

“My hands are pretty burned. I am fine,” he said. “I am shaken up. I am happy to be here.”

This guy jumped onto a terrorist who had a flaming explosive, stripped him, AND subdued him.  I'd be pretty shaken up too.  This guy must have balls of steel.

Would you have been able to do that?  This is just one of those things where you can't predict what you would or wouldn't do unless you were in that same situation.

I know this...Jasper Schuringa deserves to be called a hero.  Check him out on Facebook here.
