Rumors are running rampant today that Apple may be looking to buy Twitter.

Twitter's owners have made it perfectly clear that they do not want to sell right now, even though the service was recently valued at$250 million.

The rumor currently circulating goes something like this...

Apple is in late stage negotiations to buy Twitter and is hoping to announce it at WWDC in June,” according to reliable source, adding that the purchase price would be $700 million in cash.

The important thing to note here is that this is ONLY a rumor, and one that people are having trouble validating at that.

It seems unlikely that this would happen.  Google tried to buy Twitter recently, only to be rebuked by Twitter CEO Evan Williams.

Twitter also turned down $500 million from Facebook, partly due to the fact that Twitter's investors couldn't agree on the actual value of Facebook's stock.

The only advantage Apple may have here is that they can pay cold, hard cash.  We'll see if this turns out to be a legit rumor.
