Is Steve Jobs Really Dead?

Nope. Just looks like more Twitter hacking. We already knew that Steve Jobs was suffering from a hormone imbalance, thus preventing him from appearing at Macworld this year…but many were surprised to see that he had died.

At this point, reports are conflicting as to whether the recent hacks were performed by the 4chan group or Digital Gangster.

Among yesterday’s fake tweets, Fox News got “Breaking: Bill O Riley is gay,” and Rick Sanchez from CNN got “I am high on crack right now might not be coming into work today.” Other Twitter accounts had links to sites to generate affiliate revenue.

Facebook’s Twitter account had a message pointing to getlaid.info (now shut down), which redirected to a porn site. President Elect Barack Obama’s account had a link to a site that offered a $500 gas card for taking a survey. Both had affiliate links associated with them.

According to TechCrunch, a post on Digital Gangster asked “Who did it?”.

Gmz, a hacker on the site, chimed into the thread, saying “That guy must have been a very generous individual. To hand out accounts rather than use that for profit. Could it be enough for respect or just enough for that user to be identified as an “idiot”?”

On the other hand, the screenshot below shows that the aforementioned 4chan group might be responsible for the Steve Jobs post. It’s possible that these are just two unrelated events, but it will be interesting to see how all of this pans out eventually. I think this is just the tip of the iceberg.
