The war of words between the Iran and the U.S. is heating up once again, as a leader with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps says it is prepared to strike 35 American facilities in the Middle East, if need be.
Brig. Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh said that, in current missile war games, Iran’s military practiced hitting a hypothetical enemy air base that’s actually a replica of other U.S. bases in the region.
“We have thought of measures to set up bases and deploy missiles to destroy all these bases in the early minutes after an attack,” Hajizadeh said of the country’s contingency plans for a potential confrontation with the U.S.
He added that all of the 35 U.S. installations in the area “are within the reach of our missiles.”
Hajizadeh went on to add that lands that are currently in dispute between Palestinian and Israeli leaders “are good targets for us as well.”
The IRGC air force began missile war games on Tuesday, firing missiles from facilities across the country at a lone target in central Iran.
Brig. Gen. Hossein Salami told the media this week that the main goal of the drill “was to demonstrate the Iranian nation’s political resolve to defend [its] vital values and national interests,” according to Iran’s Press TV.
Iran’s military has repeatedly cautioned that, if the country is attacked by either the United States or Israel, Iran would then target all U.S. bases in the Middle East and shut down the Strait of Hormuz.
The U.S. Department of Defense has declined to comment on Hajizadeh’s remarks.
