First in line for an iPhone

When will iPhone 3.0 be available? Any minute now it would seem.

Sources seem to indicate that "OS 3.0 can release anytime between 1700 and 1930 in London or between 12:00pm and 2:30pm ET."  Why all the secrecy?  Well, it's likely an attempt to keep Apple's servers from crashing.

One of the biggest new features we're looking forward to is the new, landscape-style messaging  keyboard.

"Messages" is the new SMS, and it's been renamed to signify the addition of MMS (multi-media messaging service). It allows, in the case of the new iPhone OS 3.0 software, for you to receive vCards (or contacts), audio, location, and — for iPhone 3G S only — video to be sent using the Messages interface to any other smartphone or feature-phone that supports MMS and those file types.

Once you receive an MMS, you can tap the icon in the message bubble to get a better look at it. In the case of a contact, you’ll see a page similar to what you get when you call up a contact in Phone, except at the very bottom you’ll have extra, saving and sharing related options that we’ll cover later in the Phone app section.

There are lots more exciting features coming with iPhone 3.0.  You can read about them here.

In the meantime, be patient.  Good things come to those who wait!
