No recession here – not on the internet anyway.
The Interactive Advertising Bureau reported yesteray that U.S. web advertising increased by 10.6 percent to $23.4 billion in 2008. Not only that, but the $6.1 billion 4th quarter was the very first time web advertising exceeded $6 billion.
The rate of growth did drop, however, both annually and quarterly. Also, the sequential growth rate of 4.5 percent over the 3rd quarter was the lowest since 2002.
Search advertising ruled the pack, taking 45 percent of total web advertising market share. That niche also grew 20 percent for the year.
The only area that grew as quickly was video. Online video ads grew more quickly than any other area, with 123 percent growth. Display ads were also able to manage an 8 percent growth rate for the year…
