Just over 5 weeks ago, Helio Castroneves wasn't sure he would come out of his tax evasion trial with an innocent plea. Now, he has just become only the ninth driver to win the Indianapolis 500 three times.
Most of the tax evasion charges against Castoneves were dismissed. Today, he won the Indy 500.
Helio Castroneves pulled away over the final laps to beat Dan Wheldon (2nd) and Danica Patrick (3rd). Wheldon and Patrick battled it out for second place.
By finishing in third place, Patrick surpassed her 4th-place finish as a rookie back in 2005. Patrick also landed the highest finish ever for a woman at the Indy 500, as Sarah Fisher and Milka Duno finished in 17th and 20th place.

It was an emotional race for Helio Castroneves, who said the following in the Winner's Circle:
"I think my tears speak for everything. I have to thank the Lord for giving me this opportunity. And I have to thank my team because they gave me my life back. And to the fans, you guys kept me strong. You are the best. I'm honored to have fans like you. Let's celebrate now -- yeah, baby!!!"
