The Indiana toddler who was found in a field after Friday’s devastating tornado outbreak has died.
Fourteen-month-old Angel Babcock was found in a field after her family’s mobile home was destroyed in the violent weather that rocked the Midwest and South.
She had been in critical condition at Kosair Children’s Hospital in Kentucky. She had sustained head and neck injuries and her grandparents decided to remove her from life support.
Her father, mother, and two siblings were killed in the storms.
The death toll from Friday’s massive tornado outbreak now stands at 39.
Henryville, Indiana was hit by two tornadoes and was all but destroyed. There was still no power and no heat at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Henryville, but at mass this morning, the church’s parishioners made sure there was music.
Father Steven Schaftlein told his congregation that this town has a choice to make: react with hope or react with despair.
“We can choose to begin anew, to see this experience as the end or a new beginning,” Schaftlein said.
The National Weather Service says that tornadoes hit Henryville on Friday afternoon. A powerful EF4 tornado was on the ground for some 50 miles.
Today, cleanup crews came to town repairing power lines and clearing the wreckage.
