In Space No One Can Hear You Tweet, Well Maybe

For the first time ever, an astronaut has tweeted from space.

Mike Massimino, a.k.a Astro_Mike, has tweeted while aboard the space shuttle Atlantis.  His status update reads:

“From orbit: Launch was awesome!! I am feeling great, working hard, & enjoying the magnificent views, the adventure of a lifetime has begun!”

Astro_Mike is one of 7 astronauts that left Cape Canaveral on a maintenance mission to help repair the Hubble Space Telescope.

While on the trip, Massimino’s Twitter messages will bring to space travel a layer of transparency that we’ve not seen before.

Let’s hope that tile damage turns out to be a non-issue.
