Government officials warned dieters of liver damage and other health problems and issued a Hydroxycut recall. The weight loss supplement is widely popular and made in Canada. It has been linked to at least one death.

The FDA has said that the manufacturer has agreed to recall 14 products in the Hydroxycut line. Hydroxycut is marketed as a product manufactured from “all natural ingredients”. There were more than 9 million packages sold in 2008, according to the FDA.

Dr. Linda Katz of the FDA’s food and nutrition division said that their offices have gotten 23 reports of liver problems, including one fatality – the death of a 19-year-old boy in the Southwest.

The boy passed away back in 2007 but the FDA was just made aware of the incident in March.

Other negative symptoms include jaundice, yellowing of the skin, and complete failure of the liver. One person has already gotten a liver transplant while one other was put on a waiting list.

Thus far, there has been no comment from the U.S. distributors of the pill, Iovate Health Sciences, which is headquartered in Buffalo, New York.
