Australian actor Hugh Jackman put his foot down and stopped a Broadway show when a cell phone rang in the audience.
“You want to get that?” Jackman said when the ringing phone interrupted an intense scene in a preview performance of “A Steady Rain” last week. The show actually opens on Tuesday with Daniel Craig starring along with Hugh Jackman.
“Grab your phone, it doesn’t matter,” said Jackman, as the ringing continued.
“Come on, just turn it off. We can wait. Just get the phone,” Jackman continued as the audience applauded.
“Don’t be embarrassed. Just grab it,” he added.
It seemed clear, however, that the person in the audience didn’t want to answer the phone at the risk of being embarrassed. After several rings, it stopped.
After several rings, the cell phone started to ring again, causing Craig to get involved as well. The two end up actually turned a terrible situation into something the audience clearly went nuts over.
Why didn’t the person just put the phone on “vibrate” after the first time it rang?
Jackman, 40, is best known for his role as Wolverine in the “X-Men” movies. He is returning to Broadway after his hit 2004 Tony-award winning role in the musical “The Boy from Oz.”
