failboat

After the Hostgator incident the other day, it’s hard to imagine things getting any worse.

I should know by now, that’s when things get worse.

As you may recall, the other day Hostgator shut down our site temporarily because we were using too much CPU.  No warning, no phone call, just YOINK – site went down – oh and then I got an e-mail notification of why the site was down and what I needed to do to get it back up.

So last night, to my horror, we tried to log on to write a few posts for the week and the site was COMPLETELY down.  No pesky 404 errors this time, just a whole lot of NOTHING.

To top things off, this time we didn’t get a phone call (as was promised in the comments from the LAST Hostgator fail).  In fact, we didn’t even get an e-mail this time.  Nothing.

We got on Live Chat with Hostgator and was informed that they were upgrading the Apache on our server and to please give them 20 more minutes.

OK, 20 minutes.  Not so bad.

An hour later?  Still nothing.

We got on with Live Chat again and was a little less polite this time.  “Very sorry, 15 more minutes please.” they said.

OK.

Another hour later?  Still nothing.

Now on this same server, we also host a pro wrestling site.  Why?  Because I’m a pro wrestling junkie.  So shoot me.

It generates a fair amount of coin too, and do you know what last night was? Yep, the biggest wrestling night of the year, Wrestlemania 25.

This is as bad as it gets, folks.

We got back on the line with Live Support at Hostgator and told them to get our site back up because we would hate to bill them for the income that we were losing while the site was down.

Lo and behold, our site magically came back online WHILE we were on chat.  Sometimes it pays to be the squeaky wheel.

The thing that sucks most about all of this is that now we will have to research other hosting providers and make a switch.  Always a pain.

P.S. – Was Wrestlemania great this year or what?
