Dog lovers will soon be able to buy a car that’s perfectly suited to man’s best friend. It comes with a cushioned dog bed in the trunk (because it’s always nice to cram your dog into the trunk), a built-in water bowl, and a ramp (yes, a RAMP) to help older dogs climb in.
Honda previewed the dog-friendly version of its Element SUV at the New York Auto Show.
Senior product planner James Jenkins said Americans spend $41 billion per year on their pets. That figure is expected to increase to $52 billion within two years.
“Pets have become more like family, more important to households than ever before,” Jenkins said.
The Element currently sells for about $20,000. Honda hasn’t yet determined how much the new pet-friendly version will cost.
Honda expects the car to become available in the U.S. thid fall.
